English: Bronze mountings on wooden casket from Intercisa on the Danube, south of Aquincum-Budapest, from the 5th century AD. The artist who made them used Roman techniques, but the subject is clearly not Roman. The heads are somewhat related to the masks found in Hunnic burials; however, the mustache does not occur on the currently known masks from Hunnic burials. The mustache resembles those depicted on Turkish stone figures in Southern Siberia and Mongolia. These masks have been claimed for the Sarmatians and the Huns; though, according to contemporary Roman historians, the latter either had no beard or grew a thin beard.
