Text Appearing Before Image: re dressedwith many tailed bandages, after the outer corners ofthe sling have been turnedback. C. If there be considerable swelling after severe shattering of thearm, the limb must be first of all raised; and for this purpose it ismost conveniently placed upon a padded Stromeyers arm-splint witha hole for the internal condyle of the humerus (s. fig. 140). tj. For fractures of the upper end of the humerus, with obstinatetilting outwards of the upper fragment, the whole of the upper armmust be placed in the abducted position by Middeldorpfs triangle, atriangular wedge-shaped cushion (fig. 165), or by a double inclinedplane (fig. 166), framed out of three boards, whose longest side is fixedto the trunk by straps or handkerchiefs, whilst the arm bent to anobtuse angle is placed upon the two shorter sides, and fixed there bybandages. As oedema easily arises on account of the dependent position ofthe arm, the whole arm must be very carefully bandaged from belowupwards. 78 Fig. 165. Fig. 166.
