Yuxarıda olduğu kimi aşağıda da — VIII əsrin sonu və ya IX əsrin əvvəllərində ərəbcə mənbədə aşkar edilmiş qısa hermetik mətn olan "Zümrüd Lövhə"nin ikinci misrasının məşhur müasir parafrazı.[1] Parafraz "Zümrüd Lövhə"nin bir neçə mövcud latınca tərcümələrindən birinə əsaslanır, burada ikinci misra aşağıdakı kimidir:[2]
Quod est superius est sicut quod inferius, et quod inferius est sicut quod est superius.
That which is above is like to that which is below, and that which is below is like to that which is above.
Yuxarıda olan aşağıdakı kimi, aşağıda olan da yuxarıdakı kimidir.
Parafraz bu latınca versiyaya xasdır və orijinalı olan ərəbcədən fərqlidir.
Yelena Blavatskaya və "Kibalion"un anonim müəllifi kimi görkəmli müasir okkultistlər tərəfindən istifadə edildikdən sonra məşhurlaşmağa başladı və Nyu-eyc dairələrində tez-tez istinad edilən bir şüar oldu.[3]
